strategic mentoring for destination management teams

It's been incredibly tough times for the Australian Tourism industry, and it's looking like 2022 will continue to be another disruptive year as we learn to live with COVID.

After developing a number of visitor economy strategies throughout the course of this Pandemic, we have an intimate understanding of some of the major challenges faced by those responsible for growing local visitor economies.

We understand that most destinations will have a Destination Management Plan (DMP), but in a lot of cases the consultation and planning was done before, or in the early stages of the Pandemic.

This presents a challenge as organisations are now having to realign and refocus their DMPs and Action Plans based on the current situation, which is difficult given we are in a state of constant flux and their primary concern is supporting their industry through these challenging times.

We know this can cause a lot of stress and overwhelm for those who are responsible for implementing their DMP, and can sometimes feel like they are working in a reactive manner.

It's this understanding which has led us to develop our DestinationNEXT Mentoring Program.

Through our DestinationNEXT Program we are offering the opportunity to support you to strategically review your DMP,  help you focus your efforts, and identify and set a path to seize the opportunities that are relevant to grow your local visitor economy sensitively through these challenging times.

How the Programcan
support your team and Industry

One of the major challenges we've heard about from our colleagues is not they don't have a Plan, it's a matter of having the time and headspace to adapt, prioritise and implement the actions within their Plan, whilst also supporting the acute needs of the industry.

So, we're offering an unbiased sounding board, a fresh set of eyes, someone to share the strategic thinking load with, to help get clarity and put the wheels in motion for your next move.

It's our intention that our time spent together will help you and your team to:

  • Proactively Plan + Prioritise

We will review your current DMP with you against the changes in the tourism landscape, and help you decide what you should be prioritising based on opportunities for your specific destination.

  • Knowledge + Confidence

We will equip you with the knowledge, tools and insights you need to not only adapt your DMP, but give you confidence to push forward with the right projects and initiatives and bring your stakeholders along for the journey, to continue to add value to your local visitor economy.

  • Get More Support from Stakeholders

We offer strategies on how to engage with your local community and visitor economy stakeholders in the visitor economy planning process, to ensure the very best outcomes for your community from a social, environmental and economic perspective.

Paige And Rebecca

This is us, Rebecca on the Left, and Paige to the right!

For those who don't know us, or haven't worked with us before, we're two passionate tourism specialists, who have been working across the Australian visitor economy for the last 25 years (or so!).

We've worked extensively in international & destination marketing, as strategists and marketing educators working with destinations, local governments and operators across Australia.

Since establishing Tourism eSchool back in 2012 (wow, that feels like a lifetime ago!), we've worked with many destinations, visitor centres and local governments, as well as hundreds of tourism businesses, coaching and mentoring them on strategy, experience development and digital marketing.

What it's like to workwith us

Our values at Tourism eSchool are very much centered around family, and when we work with our clients, we like to consider them part of our family too.

This connection is essential, as we believe the trust built through this approach yields excellent results for our clients, as it is how we deliver our best work.

So, whilst this is a new Program for 2022 and we're yet to receive any feedback, we thought we'd share a few comments from our valued destination clients so you can see what it may be like to work with us!

I cannot recommend Tourism E-School highly enough!

Destination Riverland commissioned Tourism E-School in 2019 following an exhaustive tender process to develop the Riverland Tourism Plan 2030 (RTP2030). In early 2020, Tourism eSchool started an extensive program of consultation in community and on line began in earnest only to be disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the whole process Rebecca and Paige were wonderfully adaptive, clear and timely in their communication and the final plan produced, despite the interruption of COVID, was outstanding. I cannot recommend Tourism E-School highly enough. I am proud of the work and confident in its application to grow Riverland Tourism over the next decade.
Ben Patten, General Manager, Destination Riverland

From the get-go Paige and Rebecca had such a good understanding of our region and what we were wanting to achieve.

As Regional Tourism Manager for the Clare Valley Tourism Region I was very fortunate to work with Paige and Rebecca from Tourism eSchool in developing the Clare Valley Destination Marketing + Management Plan 2019 – 2024.

We have been able to implement many of our short term goals, some of which have included working with Tourism eSchool again and these efforts have always had a positive outcome. Their focus is very much results driven; we have since seen our website develop to be more interactive with our market, blog articles have proved successful and both the Facebook and Instagram accounts have seen engagement growth.

Personally, I found Paige and Rebecca so easy to work with. They are supportive, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the tourism industry.
Mim Ward, Regional Tourism Manager, Clare Valley Tourism Region

Paige and Rebecca brought best practice destination marketing into our strategy and action plan for implementation which has led to significant year on year growth with our digital assets (this during Australia’s worst bushfire season and a global pandemic) in the first year of implementation.

Working with Tourism eSchool has been a great process. They conducted an extremely thorough analysis of the region and its product offering, as well as auditing the various digital channels we were responsible for. They also supported the team in building capabilities internally and growing knowledge (consumer trends, best practice, what works and doesn’t with destination marketing, SEO), which in turn has helped us evolve our digital activities, membership benefits, and work with local tourism associations in a new way in the marketing space (just to name a few)!
